Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Maengelito - 11-22-2016

I just picked up a Pixel a few weeks ago and so far it's been pretty good. I find it to look and feel a lot like my wife's iPhone 6, but with Android, which I prefer. The camera takes pretty good pics too and its really fast (though maybe because its new and I haven't filled it up with junk yet). I'm a little leery of phones where you can't take out the battery, or you can't add an SD card, but overall, I'm pretty happy with it.

Yeah that is the impression I got from it as well. Google's UI on this phone is more like iPhones than other android phones I've used.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I wish it didn't have that fingerprint scanner in the back. It's something I probably won't ever use and because it's there all of the cases for the phone have a giant obnoxious hole in them.

Hey, other S7/S7 Edge users... does your battery life suck as much as mine?

I like the phone but my god, for how big a battery this thing has, it's miserable. I really want the Pixel as I think a lot of Samsung's shit software is what eats battery, but I'm stuck in this phone for a while longer.

I should be picking up the Pixel tomorrow. Not sure if I will get the XL or regular. Will update with my shit opinions. Will be a welcome change from an S5. Getting tired of Samsung's touch wiz crap and my parents contract finally expires. I held it and it felt great. Not sure how I feel about the all metal but it feels very mature and iPhone-esque.

Might want to wait for black Friday. It sounds like Best Buy and Verizon are going to have some good deals on it.

Shouldn't be that bad. I'm sure you looked up how to save battery life. You should be easily getting a full day off a charge. I know I did on my S5 when it was new for like a year. Make sure your snyc settings for emails aren't syncing every second. I noticed that helped a bit by changing it to like a few minutes-thirty minutes. Also I big hit to battery is gps/location settings. :dunno:

I haven't seen anything for the Pixel only the S7, G5, Moto Z, iPhone and some other one's. Am I missing something?

Vanilla Android > all the skinned crap from Samsung, LG, ETC....

Nothing drastic has really changed for a while on Vanilla Android phones. Everyone's horrible experiences seem to have been with skinned versions from other manufacturers. I think now that Nexus/Pixel phones are getting picked up by the carriers people will realize how awesome they are.

The Pixel was tempting, but not enough of an upgrade over my 6P to justify switching

The finger print scanner on my 6P has been great for me, real natural since that is where my finger falls when pulling it out of my pocket. Unlike the button on the front of most phones with finger print scanners, it feels unnatural and I am contorting my hand in an uncomfortable way on a larger phone.

I has always thought it was stupid for Iphone Otterbox cases to have that giant quarter size circle to reveal the Apple logo on the back, im ok with the dime sized functional holes in the back of my 6P cases.

Yeah mine's pretty average, but I use it for work and am connected constantly to a Bluetooth headset. There was just a software update last night so I am hoping that improves the battery life.

The Verizon employee I talked to yesterday said the deals for the Pixel are likely to show up online on Wednesday. At this point, I've just seen rumors though.

I guess I can call and ask them Wednesday before I show up at the retail store if I don't see them online. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Jake - 11-22-2016

Can I get a Pixel on AT&T or is it Verizon only right now?

AT&T is willing to give me a warranty replacement, but my back glass has a small crack which means they'll charge me full replacement cost of the phone.

Guess I'll look into replacing the back glass myself and then deal with this otherwise. I largely like Android but the experience of both using the phone and getting support is so tremendously fragmented.

Works on AT&T, but can't buy it through AT&T. Have to buy it direct from Google or through Verizon.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - RawrImAMonster - 11-22-2016

You can get it for AT&T, you just can't get it through them. I think Verizon is the only carrier you can purchase it through, but it's still available to purchase unlocked from Google directly.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Jake - 11-22-2016

Cool. Guess I should fix the back glass (ordered a replacement for $16 on eBay) and figure out how to sell the phone. I did the AT&T Next plan so there is effectively a payoff amount that I have to deal with. Not sure what the phone is worth.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 11-22-2016

You can finance through Google just like the carriers if you don't want to buy it straight up.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - WRXtranceformed - 11-23-2016

New update was a huge improvement on battery life. Usually I'm at near empty by this late on the day and I'm still at 34%

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - rherold9 - 11-23-2016

Per Verizon - "Thursday, get a new Pixel, Phone by Google for as little as $10 a month* through Black Friday or up to $200 off** a new Pixel, Phone by Google through Sunday, November 27."

VZW is still doing $300 off the iPhone 7 when you trade in a non-cracked iPhone 6 as well for anyone looking into getting a 7. Runs through the end of December.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - RawrImAMonster - 11-23-2016

$15 a month for 2 years only comes out to $360 total for the Pixel with 128GB. Not bad at all considering it would be closer to $30 a month normally according to the Verizon employee I talked to the other day.

I think Verizon switched up their plans recently so that you're paying less than you used to, but they aren't hiding the price of the phone in that price. Now they have that cost listed separately, which is how it should be. Before, if you didn't upgrade every two years, you were continuing to finance a phone that you've already paid off.
