Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - SlimKlim - 07-22-2016 I also tried sea salt but I think maybe it was too coarse to feed into the chamber properly or something. Or maybe my aim just sucked. Maybe this weekend I'll set up some scientific ballistics testing to compare spread and penetration between table, kosher and sea salt on pieces of aluminum foil. Some people claim glass microbeads are the ideal ammo but I'd rather keep it organic so I don't have to worry about the dog licking it up. I also found a youtube video that shows how to disable the thumb safety to allow you to stay on target and get more rapid follow up shots in. Might do that when I install my laser sight. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 07-22-2016 WRXtranceformed Wrote:She physically can't get her hands around a gun like that comfortably I'm just gonna quote this and let the reader make their own internal monologue jokes. Stay tuned. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - ScottyB - 07-22-2016 i think you literally just invented a new party thing additionally, if it becomes a thing you may have caused the first widespread instance of people blinding themselves by drunkenly shooting salt into each other's eyes Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - *insertusernamehere* - 07-22-2016 SlimKlim Wrote:Margarita Jello Ballistics Gel Cubes infused with a shotgun blast of salt? Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - SlimKlim - 07-22-2016 Skeet-a-Rita The Skeet-a-Rita starter kit comes with 2 Skeet-a-Rita salt shotguns, 1 patented Skeet-a-Rita jello target mold, 4 packages of our delicious Skeet-a-Rita Margarita Mix, 1 Skeet-a-Rita RitaThrower, 1 pair of Skeet-a-Rita safety glasses, and 1 Skeet-a-Rita score keeping whiteboard. The game requires one shooter and one tribute. Place the Skeet-a-Rita RitaThrower approximately 10 ft away from the tribute. The shooter stands perpendicular from the Skeet-a-Rita RitaThrower and tribute, approximately halfway between them, and about 5 ft back. Load one target into the Skeet-a-Rita RitaThrower. Release the Skeet-A-Rita RitaThrower when the shooter calls pull, and the shooter attempts to hit the target before landing in the tribute's mouth. The tribute determines a successful hit based on the saltiness of the target. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 07-22-2016 Skeet-a-Reeta? Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - SlimKlim - 07-25-2016 No time to go to the store and buy jello just to shoot salt at it, but I did manage to install my laser sight and squeeze in some preliminary spread pattern testing before going to brunch yesterday. As a side note, has anyone actually followed the instructions on the superglue package? It's amazing how well it works when you do. I scuffed both surfaces to be mated with 80grit sandpaper then wiped them off with a cleaning solvent, put a generous bead of glue on both surfaces and let them flash off for 30 seconds or so before sticking them together and the bond was literally instantaneous and permanent, luckily I got it straight the first time. Anyway, I got it pretty well dialed in around 30", which I think is the ideal range for both spread and stopping power: ![]() ![]() Then I grabbed some scraps of aluminum foil and did some quick ammunition comparisons at 24". Contrary to conventional thinking, the Kosher salt seems to provide no benefit over the table. It results in fewer grains entering the chamber, but without a noticeable increase in penetration. I think the issue is that kosher salt will flake and crumble as it is jostled, whereas table salt maintains its consistency. The table salt provides a much more even spread pattern and similar penetration, only a few grains of each type made it all the way through the foil. Kosher: ![]() Table: ![]() Now the sea salt was surprising. If the table salt is #4 shot this shit is 00 buckshot. Obviously you get a markedly reduced pellet count but the penetration is significantly higher with at least 7-8 pellets making it clean through the foil, vs only a few of the kosher or table. ![]() In conclusion I recommend loading table salt for your day-to-day pest control needs. Flies, small spiders, mosquitoes, etc. The penetration is adequate and the larger and more even spread is advantageous for that sort of game. However, if you have the opportunity to rechamber to sea salt for larger spiders / house centipedes, you'll probably get in a cleaner kill. Stay tuned for further research next time I get super bored. |
