My TP-Link started shitting the best over the last few weeks - it would just randomly drop connections or need to be restarted for all devices to be able to connect to it. I originally liked it, but it seems pretty unusual to have a router last more than two years these days.
I decided to pick up a beefier Netgear in hopes that spending a bit more money would help. The good news is my down over wifi jumped from 69 Mbps to 83 Mbps without doing anything except swapping the equipment. Yay faster porn!

Did a quick search and could only find results in this thread for the sound bar. Is there another thread for TV?
Oh well, has anyone considered a Vizio TV in recent purchases? It looks like I can get a 60" from Costco for around $750 around the holidays. Now that may not be the best deal out there but I'm seeing all the sales on Vizio made me start to wonder and a quick Google search showed some interesting results saying for the money there really isn't another TV that touches their picture quality. But I take that with a grain of salt because for the money can be a matter of opinion in some regard.
I don't really need to upgrade but I also wouldn't mind a nice big TV which would also be one less thing to buy when I get a house. I'm not worried about the latest and greatest tech. As long as it works. I gave up long ago trying to stay up with new tech. Shit, our living room TV still uses component cables due to the AV receiver not having HDMI (even though the TV itself is full HD and has HDMI inputs)
TL;DR. If you were buying a TV this year, which brand would you go with and what features would you have to have or want to have? What do you think of Vizio as a contender?

Have 2 Vizios, the 50 is (Holy Shit) 9yrs old, the 40 is 10 yrs old and both are still running strong.
At the time, they were affordable and could only notice a slight difference.in picture quality, mostly with Blacks and dark pictures.
If I were to buy a new one today, i'd go Samsung or Sony, picture quality is still better IMO and only a couple hundred diff in price compared to a comparable Vizio. But you cant go wrong with a Vizio TBH.

I have a 6-7 year old Sony and people still compliment the picture quality.

Have watched a lot of Vizios and never had any issues. Picture quality is fine. I do have 2 samsungs and picture quality is really good. One LED and one Plasma. I'm not into the 4k bullshit so I can't tell you anything in that regards.

I think Samsung is the best image quality. I have a 4K Samsung and i recommend it, it's not so much more of an add-on that it used to be. If you can, i would also look into making sure it is HDR compatible, also note that there are two different versions of HDR (HDR-10 and Dolby HDR.) HDR-10 is the universal standard, so most devices support that whereas Dolby HDR is proprietary and requires licensing, so less support it. Some TV's can do both.

I'm an LG TV fan. I have a 47" that I bought on amazon years ago, and it's still thin and modern looking, and people always compliment how good the picture is.

lurve LG stuff. my parents have a great LG OLED in the living room that looks amazing and i'm working on a 34UM88CP QHD IPS monitor screen right now. great color and the quality for the money has been excellent.
its worth mentioning too that their customer service is typically pretty above par if you have an issue.

My parents had a LG recently that they got rid of. The sound quality was terrible. You could crank that thing up to volume 70 and it would be a whisper. Picture was decent though.

I'm still managing to actively avoid the TV areas of department stores. I don't want to see how good 4k is because I have zero desire to buy a new one.

Technology adoption is a curve. I'm a firm believer 4k isn't ready yet, but it will hit critical mass in the next year or two.

Pretty much everything Netflix and Amazon produces now is 4K (Man in the High Castle, Narcos, OITNB etc.) Looks like Grand Tour will be too, so that' sweet.
It's really no that much more to get 4K now, HDR will run you a bit, but still not that bad. If you're looking into getting a TV, it's kind of dumb not to get 4K. If you don't need to get one, then yeah, no reason to upgrade to 4K, "just because."
