that commercial is one of the internet's greatest legacys. "challenge pissing" reminds me of just trying to hit the urinal after a couple hard parties back in the day

If this guy doesn't exemplify the rich, entitled selfish dick hypercar buyers out there I don't know who does:

Racing Legend Denied a LaFerrari Aperta Drops Lawsuit, Says Acura NSX Is Better than LaFerrari Anyway

Quote:"Here's something that may be hard for you to believe, but I got that La Ferrari and it was delivered to my house… and I didn't like it," he declared. "And I got here and I couldn't get out of the car. I had to call the police to get me out of the car. What happened is I didn't realize that door was as heavy as it was. Once I realized it, they could pull the door and get out and I had no problem. It is just not a comfortable car.

"In fact, I just sent a letter [to Acura] about how I like the NSX. It is the best damn car I have ever had. It is unbelievable. It is really, really a great car and it is $200,000 versus… well, the last Ferrari I got from them, not the La Ferrari, the last one I got, I forgot what it's called, it was a Spider, whatever it is, but it was $750,000. And this is so much better at $200,000."

Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 12-07-2016

Looks like there are some pretty strong rumors that we will be getting a M2 CS which will have a slightly detuned version of the S55 (m3/4 motor) rather than the n55 that the base model has. Hopefully this turns out to be correct and this drives the prices of the used base model M2's down in a few years.

Also, hopefully they can make that motor sound better than it does in the m3/4. It's not so nice to the ears in the current cars.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 12-07-2016

Yeah I totally get being pissed off at Ferrari for their bullshit games with limited models, but to sue them because they wouldn't sell you a car? That is stupid. Only way that would make sense is if you had a signed contract to buy a car and Ferrari reneged on it.

All well and good that he likes the NSX, but he sounds like the type of customer you don't want.

Am I the only one who's amused by the fact that some rich guy is too weak to open a car door?

Rich people don't need to make sense! His reputation was ruined when his friends found out he was denied a Ferrari The Ferrari. Give this man some money!

I know that somewhere out there, someone has been knocked out cold (or worse) by a scissor door.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 12-20-2016

Mercedes AMG GT R posts a 7:11 'Ring lap:

Puts it near the top of the heap for current supercars (e.g. 10 seconds faster than 488). Now we all know that 'Ring times, magazine times, etc. are to be taken with a grain of salt given the differences in conditions, drivers, etc.

But it seems to me that a couple of manufacturers have been taking advantage of Pilot Sport Cup 2's that are made to deliver blistering lap times while having a life so short that they would maybe last one track weekend. In this case the AMG GT R that set the fast lap, did so using an optional spec of the Sport Cup 2's that is different than what comes on the AMG GT S. Apparently that optional spec is close to what the C7 Z06 (with Z07 package) comes with.

That makes me wonder how many seconds a lap that tire is worth. Would a car like the Z06 have been 3-5 seconds a lap slower (on VIR Grand East for example) with the "regular" Sport Cup 2?

On one hand it's clever that some manufacturers are winning the lap time dick measuring contest by being clever. On the other hand this tire game that Michelin is playing kind of distorts perceptions of what these cars can actually do. Realistically if someone is buying a supercar because it posted a 'Ring time a few seconds faster than a competitor, they're being a bit daft. But truth is that performance numbers sell, even to people who don't even know where a racetrack is, much less ever set foot on one. Looks like a couple of manufacturers are 'winning' here for the time being.

Still, as fast as that AMG GT R is, I'd rather have a 911 GT3RS for a hardcore street/track car in that price range.

Which makes me wonder why he didn't have a minion around the garage or someone in the house to call (security guard/housekeeper/cook etc) and had to resort to calling the police to save him. If I had LaFerrari money I would definitely have a full staff of minions.

What do we think about this? Drive around in V-series cars all the time without having to have insurance on them or worry about maintenance. No taxes, downpayments, etc either it seems like. (other than a $500 initial signup fee).

I haven't run the numbers but it's intriguing

$1,500 a month??? I mean I get the "all inclusive thing" but down here you can't avoid the taxes which would be maybe $700-800 / year on a luxury vehicle of that cost (I don't see where they are covering taxes, I can't see a way around that because you have to pay taxes to get a license plate / sticker whether you lease or own), insurance probably not more than $150/month depending on your record and even my Jag wasn't super expensive to maintain (maybe a couple grand a year all in). I mean I got quoted a brand new XFR lease payment at under $1100 I think without any negotiation. The CEO of a company I used to work for leased an R8 for a little over $1300/mo.

That price seems REALLY high just to be able to swap into whatever Cadillac you want and not have to worry about "ownership". Maintenance should be covered on most new luxury cars now anyway so it sounds to me like a REALLY expensive lease that just gives you access to multiple models you can order with an app.

Confusedhock: *heavy breathing*
On the NSX forum I saw some guy who got a similarly amazing lease deal on a brand new R8. Seems like there are big discounts to be had over the winter.

But yeah, I don't think the numbers here are particularly favorable. If you want to drive something like a CTS-V every day but frequently need the extra space of an Escalade, maaaayyybbeee. Otherwise that payment isn't really a deal given that the most expensive Cadillac is only about $100k.

Yeah for sure....and the "no carrying insurance" thing is a bit odd too. Like I would really need to see the terms of their insurance to see if I am comfortable with their liability limits and such. That's aside from the fact that creating a gap in your insurance history means higher rates if you ever decide to actually buy or lease your own car in the future.

I guess they are setting it up like an extended rental (ie you're paying for the insurance and maintenance, it's just rolled into that $1500). I guess I just don't see the benefit at that price point of just flat out leasing something and trading in for a different model if you get bored with it

Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 01-05-2017

Lol @ $1500 a month for Cadillacs. Maybe if they had a line up of exciting cars it would be more intriguing but just the CTS V and ATS V? No way.

I'm also with Lee on the insurance aspect. There are many other components of car insurance besides the actual car. Without knowing the limits it really means nothing.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 01-05-2017

Now the big question is, assuming you had the desire and means, would you pay $1500 per month for "concierge" lease/rent/whatever this is if it was something in supercar territory? ESPECIALLY if you could walk away from one model and try another one without taking a hit and didn't have to deal with the legitimately scary maintenance costs?

I'm actually really curious to hear G's thoughts on this because I know he has been doing some honest window shopping for a good while
