Mid-engine has been a dream/goal of Corvette engineers since Zora Arkus-Duntov took over and saved the car. I remember back when the C6 came out they were talking about nearing the edge of what you can do with front engine layout and mid-engine was needed to go next level.
I don't think it needs to be more expensive just because it's mid-engine. No reason they couldn't do this at a 60-65K starting point. My fear is styling, I'm just not convinced they can nail it.

I'll have trouble liking a mid-engine corvette, mostly because I don't like change. It took me a good 3 years before I liked the C6 just because it didn't have pop-up headlights.

Well fuck me. Didn't even touch the paddles. 181mph on the long straight. Jesus. Beat old time by 12 seconds. A 7:29 at the Ring for the sweet low price of $62k:
Edit: To put this in perspective it's 8 seconds seconds faster than the old Z28, 3 seconds faster than a GT350R, 1.4 seconds faster than GT2. Only one second off a Carrera GT and M4 GTS... :lol: . Can't wait to see what the new Z28 does.

that was a beautiful lap, he really had it on the ragged edge. unreal how much of an improvement GM is making every model cycle.
if anything though it also reinforced how good the M4 GTS is...i had no idea that thing was so fast with whats basically a gutting, some dampers and water injection.

If they do not sure what they are going to do engine wise. Unless they use the same engine and strip weight/add aero or something and go faster by a few seconds. Would be crazy to see an $80k car do a 7:25 on ring lul.

hold on, i'm gonna shake things up with some actual motorsports talk....
'yota is back in WRC next year! last time they made a real effort it was during the golden age in the late 90's with the celica GT4 and corolla. with the exception of Hyundai, of all things, there hasn't been a big Asian marque at the top of the rally world in too long. i would love if this pulls Honda into the fray too, or even Subaru if i dare think it....but Jake still won't care :lol:

get this - VW (and Toyota!) has 4 WRC constructor's championship victories. Subaru only has 3. but guess what brand everyone knows as "the rally car" brand? the fact that you didn't know they've been out for almost a decade is a great example of really good marketing, and why Subaru doesn't even need to waste money competing in WRC anymore.

Not only that but WRC got... a little stupid. 1.6L maximum displacement, no active center differentials allowed, the cars got smaller than Subaru's smallest offering, (think yaris/polo/fiesta vs impreza/jetta/focus).
All of this really kind of drove Subaru out of contention. No sense in spending money to lose. :dunno:
