I think the dramatic drop in lap times is probably more due to the big jumps in tires. Those Pilot Sport Cups are damned near race tires whereas in the past cars didn't come from the factory with rubber that aggressive, even as an option.

That Camaro 1LE's lap time is impressive. Crazy to think that a V6 Camaro can put down a better lap than a 10 year old 911 Turbo (even if it is just the tires.)

The 1LE package is badass (and the one to have in autox because its basically a lightweight trashcan sized wheeled camaro).
I am impressed it beat the 2012 Boxster S. Just goes to show lap times anymore have nothing to do with how fun a car is to drive.
Edit: Talk about driving feel, I still want a C7 Grand Sport. Just gotta wait 8 years till they become affordable :lol:

Lightning Lap Onboard Vids. Looking at some of these laps there are some outright bad lines taken through some sections and a number of mistakes. Some of the laps like the GT3 RS look clean, but then you see others where they miss the apex on turn 1 or end up way off line through the infield. With just a cursory glance the 488 could've gone a good deal faster, the NSX could've gone a lot faster, and the M4 GTS could've gone a good bit faster without the mistakes.
Next year they need to have a pro driver or two set the times and call it a day.

The freaking editors just give it heir best with the stereo on? :finger: Hell, GRM knows when to bring in some local talent for much less exciting cars, it's not that hard.

At least they used a pro driver here and it seems like there were a bit more meticulous about how they tested everything. Per usual, the American metal did really well, and the 570S was really fast. R8 made a much better showing here, probably because it was wearing better tires. The 911 Carrera S was the big surprise for me here, makes me wonder what a GT3 RS could've done in this group in the hands of a professional.
