Re: How bout them Caps? - DavidL - 02-07-2010 Such a great win!!!! Re: How bout them Caps? - Maengelito - 02-07-2010 my poor heart can't take these kinds of games. Its not even the playoffs yet. Re: How bout them Caps? - Evan - 02-08-2010 epic comeback. i really thought the game was done after 4-1 Re: How bout them Caps? - Jewels - 02-08-2010 Evan Wrote:epic comeback. i really thought the game was done after 4-1 You weren't the only one. We actually said, "well there's the game." Our boys in Red managed to show them why they are at the top of the league, and why they have been on such a tear. Re: How bout them Caps? - Evan - 02-10-2010 Dear Capitals, You know that goal you just scored? Yeah we dont really feel like counting it. We will make up a reason why later and let you know then. Sincerely, Referees. Re: How bout them Caps? - Maengelito - 02-11-2010 while that call was complete bullshit, 14 in a row is pretty damn good. They were able to get atleast a point out of it too. As has been stated before, their D is not really that good. You gave up 6 goals to a team that plays the trap and where all of their offense is injured. Atleast we won't have the streak hanging over our heads going into the Olympic break. I wonder what happened to Neuvy? Re: How bout them Caps? - Maengelito - 02-22-2010 in case anyone missed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZwNlVh4W0k I felt really dirty for being happy for Malkin but with Ovie setting it up and Semin with the assist, I couldn't help it. Jagr must've forgotten in his old age that you never skate through the neutral zone with your head down. Re: How bout them Caps? - damnit458 - 02-23-2010 After all the bullshit we went through with Jagr years ago I'm pretty sure that hit brought a smile to the face of pretty much every caps fan. Gotta love the upset of Canada as well. I love Miller for the next week, but pray we don't see him a month or so from now in the playoffs. Re: How bout them Caps? - Evan - 02-23-2010 we get to see him March 3 I wouldnt bet on the losing streak ending then.... Re: How bout them Caps? - damnit458 - 03-02-2010 I have this nagging feeling that GMGM is just going to stand pat at the trading deadline and it's bothering the hell out of me Re: How bout them Caps? - Evan - 03-02-2010 I would be very very happy if we did not make any shortsighted trade moves and give up draft picks and/or long term players for short term temporary players (*cough* huet) Re: How bout them Caps? - damnit458 - 03-02-2010 Evan Wrote:I would be very very happy if we did not make any shortsighted trade moves and give up draft picks and/or long term players for short term temporary players (*cough* huet) If you're referring to when we brought Huet in a few years ago for the playoff push I saw no problem with that move. If, on the other hand, you're suggesting trading for Huet THIS year I can guarantee you there is no way in hell that is happening. With Dipietro (and thus Roloson off the market) out for the rest of the year, I think the only goalie the caps could possibly make a push for is Vokoun, but he isn't a UFA this year so that seems extremely unlikely. I will be sorely disappointed if GMGM doesn't bring in a solid 3/4 Dman. Now that Ottawa made a move I'm wishing that we'll make a strong push for Volchenkov, but seeing as the Sens are unlikely to move him (and especially to someone they'll be competing with in the playoffs) thats just a pipe dream. Realistically, I think GMGM should make a push for Seidenberg or Hamhuis. Quick Edit: Let me make myself a little more clear: If trading for someone similar to the two defensemen above is possible without losing Carlson/Alzner/Neuvirth I think it needs to be done. Giving up picks/lesser prospects at this point seems to be the right move given how open the Eastern Conference is this year. However, if any of those trades invovle losing one of those three players I don't think it's worth it. Re: How bout them Caps? - Evan - 03-03-2010 damnit458 Wrote:If you're referring to when we brought Huet in a few years ago for the playoff push for a second round pick that was a really stupid move. the only rationale for sacrificing long term players for a single playoff run is if you have THE team in their prime able to win the cup and are just 1 player short. Devils getting Kovalchuk for example was a good move. 2 years ago the caps had next to no chance at the cup. They have a better chance this year, but even then I think sacrificing the future would be very stupid. If they can hold on to the core of this team they can win a few cups. Ive only been paying close attention to hockey for 2 or 3 years but it seems like these kinds of "sacrifice your future for hte present" deals are very common. Other sports dont do this and there is a reason why. Didnt you post earlier that the Caps are strong on D? All the goals they have been giving up recently seems more like coaching and discipline to me (and was noticably worse without Poti). I think they need to leave guys like Sloan in the minors and give Carlson and Alzner lots of playing time before the playoffs. Re: How bout them Caps? - damnit458 - 03-03-2010 I agree to an extent. Yes, the Caps probably had a slim chance of winning the cup that year, but the team had been rebuilding for 5 or so years, and I think there is something to be said for giving your fans some hope. A second round pick in the scheme of things is not to much to give up for a goalie (that at the time they thought they had a chance of resigning). Plus, I'm pretty sure Mcphee's draft history hasn't been that good past the first round. Carlson, Alzner, Varlamov etc were all drafted in the first round (although I think Neuvirth might have been a second). I in no way think the Caps have a strong defense. I'd break down their D as follows: Green - 1st pairing Dman Sarge - Solid 2nd pairing Dman Poti - Solid 2nd pairing Dman Morrison - Fringe 2nd pairing, 3rd pairing Dman Pothier - Fringe 2nd pairing, 3rd pairing Dman Erskine - 3rd pairing Dman Sloan - Should be in Hershey They have depth at the 5/6 Dman spot, but they really only have 1 true number one Dman, and with Sarge playing with Green they really only have one true 2nd pairing Dman. Don't even get me started about playing Alzner/Carlson. I think both are better than any of Erskine/Sloan/Morrison, but I think the Caps stance has been clear on what their role is this year. Now, if we somehow picked up Hamhuis or Seidenberg, I would be A LOT more confident going into the playoffs with the following: Green-Schultz Poti-Hamhuis/Seidenberg Pothier-Erskine/Morrison Re: How bout them Caps? - Evan - 03-03-2010 You know, I think I am committing Capitals heresy, but I think Green needs to go. He isnt that great of a pure defenseman and his offense skills arent really needed on this team. Trade him for a good first round pick and a solid D or goalie, which also frees up cap space so we can keep Semin who makes a much bigger impact. Not this year, but sometime next year so we can resign Semin before his contract is up. Re: How bout them Caps? - damnit458 - 03-03-2010 In comes Walker, in comes Belanger... This has to mean one of flash/fehr is gone for a Dman. Come on GMGM make it happen! Kaberle/Hamhuis/Kubina/Volchenkov pleaseeeeee  By the way, that Walker trade should make you happy Evan. Getting him for a 7th round pick, that is a steal. The Belanger trade is probably a little bit of an overpayment (not sure he's worth a second), but he's good on faceoffs, he kills penalties, he's exactly what we need. One more Dman and I would be unbelievably happy. Re: How bout them Caps? - damnit458 - 03-03-2010 Son of a bitch, we bring Jurcina back. I just don't see how you can go into the playoffs saying: "It was our defense that cost us the second round last year, so we're going to go into this year with the exact same top 6." It's just ridiculous. Re: How bout them Caps? - DavidM - 03-03-2010 Just picked up Corvo for Osala + Pothier...don't really know much about him. Anyone care to enlighten me? Re: How bout them Caps? - damnit458 - 03-03-2010 DavidM Wrote:Just picked up Corvo for Osala + Pothier...don't really know much about him. Anyone care to enlighten me? That is a TERRIBLE trade. Not only did they give up Osala (decent prospect) and Pothier, they gave up a second as well. What a massive overpayment. Very unlike GMGM. Edit: Maybe I'm a little down on Corvo, but honestly throwing in the 2011 2nd round pick for him along with Osala just seems like to much to me. He's a decent Dman and will fit in well on the second pairing, but I'm not sure he's THAT much of an upgrade over Pothier.
