Smooth and bowl are not to be spoken in the same sentence. At least if you want the 'fast' lane. I think the NASA/party line is to enter the bowl w/ 1/2 the car in and 1/2 up high, in AI the fast line is to enter high and 'jump' into the bowl. While this is the fast line, the AI/AIX/CMC cars that had coilovers and cheep Caster/Camber plates were bending them from the drop.

So, do you want the fast line or the line that is pretty fast but has less chance of f-ing your shit up?

I have a pretty light car and my car didn't seem to have suffered any damage from the bowl. You're right about the bowl not being smooth though. As I was carrying more speed through, it was progressively rougher though the G's hitting you as you exit is well worth it.

you weren't going nearly as fast as those CMC and AI guys though. I think the fastest person through the bowl on Sunday was #23 and the Maroon 5.0 with the big wing. They were carrying soo much speed that both their left wheels would be off the ground when they entered the bowl. I can definitely see the damage it would cause after repetition of doing that.

Bingo. I haven't even hit the bowl that hard. I might have gotten one wheel in the air, but like you said, Lydic and those guys go into it hard. I couldn't justify busting up my car just to win HPDE.

Pete did an excellent job as the announcer when I was there on sunday. Good annunciation, articlation, clarity, and personality as well Smile
I think NASA found a new announcer!
+1

That's insane. I crapped my pants when I hit the bowl at ~60

the car with the wing is Beau Dunnivant and he did break stuff there last year. He prepared the car in anticipation of that again and I think it did OK.
