I was thinking Sport Comp 2s (I think that's the name), They seem good in a summer tire for pretty cheap.

Awesome run, glad you're enjoying it!

I used these on the Ralliart and then Evo too i think. Cheap brand but they performed really well for autocross and didn't wear all that fast:

Please don't. The previous version I had on my car when I first moved up from steelies to my snowflake alloys and I would spin most of the time in 1st gear in the rain when I was starting off. Terrible tires that scared me. My all seasons has more grip.

Sport Comp 2s will do just fine.

Huh, maybe the AWD hid some of that i guess.

Just thought it was worth suggesting, save about 20% on tires and have a longer life.

They did last forever. I picked them up with the alloys and they had a nickels head worth of tread left and they still had a dimes head left 20k later. Lol

If you are autocrossing a lot, people don't realize you will ruin "more mileage" tires faster as they overheat and fall apart.

Sumitomos are trash...literally trash. Don't even bother.

A set of the 15" Hankook RS3s are literally on closeout today for $249 a set...go go go go go

That is stupid cheap for a set of 4. No-brainer.

Wow that's a really good price for all 4, holy smokes.

DJ is correct, those tires are fine for street use (have a set on my '03 Miata daily), but autocross will destroy them quickly.

You should buy those right now.

Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - rherold9 - 07-13-2016

$249 for 4 RS3's is too good to pass up. Can't wait for 15 inch wheels lol. Going to be nice

We'll see what is on sale when I get my credit card in the mail.

Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - *insertusernamehere* - 07-14-2016

I looked last night and it said they were all sold out

Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Senor_Taylor - 07-25-2016

Small update. Pulled the head unit out and rewired the harness with shrink tubing instead of the wire nuts he had on there. Much improved speaker quality from the Sony speakers I put in. I wired up the power antenna and put a fuse in the connector in the trunk to find out what exactly was wrong. Turned out that the plastic lead that is fed through the motor had exploded, so I ordered another one. It only took me an hour to take the antenna out, pull the motor, take the motor apart and clean the bits of plastic out, then put it back in, realize I left a piece of plastic out, pull it, clean it, put it back in, and finally feed the new antenna in. The radio quality is now way better than I ever imagined it was supposed to be and the full stereo system is functioning as it should. Very happy. I also used some PlastiX on my back window to clear it up. That stuff works very well.

Just for Scott, I grabbed a few oil filters from the dealership and slipped one on for him. I'll leave the Rotella in there, though.

The car is approaching 110,000 miles and it's running very well and is a pleasure to drive. Next on my list of things is tires and suspension. The shocks have had it. I took it on a spirited cruise after working on my friend's Miata and I hit the bump stops too many times to be okay. The same day as said cruise, another 95 M cruised past my house, so I hopped in my car and chased after him. Turns out he bought his his for $500 and has been "fixing it up", including new paint (from Maaco, ew), new seats, new door cards, and various bits. It's definitely not an "M edition" anymore, and he even realized that his badges where on the wrong way when he saw mine. Pretty interesting that I'd never seen one of these before, then there is one less than 5 miles from me on my road.

A guy I work with is a photographer and a car guy, so he asked if he could shoot my car. I'm going to try to find time to clay bar it and rewax it before the shoot, but we'll see. Pics coming soon.

Tires before suspension, homie.

Jake Wrote:Tires before suspension, homie.

Of course. Suspension won't happen for a long long long time. Just adding it to the list. The Tacoma's O2 sensor set me back well over a set of tires for this thing, so I'll try to hold off.

Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Senor_Taylor - 08-01-2016

Got Dunlop Direzza DZ102 tires in 205/50/15 which is wider than the stock tires by a little. The shop installed them and did an alignment for a little over $400 which is fantastic. It's a 460 treadwear which is way higher than I wanted to do, but Sport Comp 2's were on back order everywhere and the all of the 200 TW tires would have been > $500 before I even got them installed. My old tires actually were cracking between the tread blocks, so I was pretty worried. Initial impressions are "Wow". Nicest tire I've ever had. I'm sure they won't be amazing to autocross, but they'll surely be better than 9 year old "Mirada GTX"s. They are so smooth and quiet. They don't make noise when I turn the wheel and they are so soft to ride on. They are also balanced, which improves things a lot.

They even did a free alignment. I asked them to crank up the camber and caster in the front if possible so I wouldn't roll the shoulders as much autocrossing.

First major credit card purchase, so nothing for the Miata until it's paid off. I'll be testing these tires in 2 weeks in Danville.
