Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Senor_Taylor - 05-05-2014

I don't see how there aren't a million options out there to remedy this. I'm sure coilovers on Mazda 3's are common.

rherold9 Wrote:Some have a bracket built on to their coilovers others have done similar to what I've done.

This blows my mind, how has this company not been sued?

SlimKlim Wrote:EDIT: Ryan it's not that the zipties will cut through the rubber line, its the friction and vibration they are going through being ziptied directly against that coilover that twists back and forth when you turn the wheel, that's what could cause an issue. They are mounted with a little rubber collar from the factory for a reason, so nothing is actually clamping onto the line itself.

You might not think it will be an issue, but do you really want to find out you were wrong when you're doing 85mph down 81? It's an easy fix to avoid a biiiiiiig problem.

^^This x1000. Its the most minor engineering problem ever for a part of the most important system on your car.

rherold9 Wrote:Alright. Well the one in the back is for ABS sensor not brake line so that one isn't an issue. The metal piece with the one with the brake line and I don't think that is going to much damage. I'll give it a look and make sure only zip ties are pushing on the metal part of the brake line. I agree about is it worth it. But, I just don't see it has a problem with metal on metal contact.

The ABS sensor is part of your braking system. Its very important as well.

Can you just modify that collar to either fit around the shock body or mount it to the bottom of the strut using that one bolt in the pic?

rherold9 Wrote:Edit: I may be stubborn right now cause I'm young but still.

I'm not hassling you to be a dick. I just don't want to read about your tragic end on this forum especially from something so simple.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 05-05-2014

What I could try is maybe get a longer bolt in the same size. And that could work? Hmm. I understand I don't want to see my tragic end either. I'm just not too worried about plastic zip ties on a metal brake piece. But, I'll give it a serious look when I get more time after exam week

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - ispoonwithmugen - 05-05-2014

Young or not you'd be stupid to not secure your brake lines. Plus I'm pretty sure you won't pass tech with them ziptied. After some people's brakes failed this past weekend are you willing to bet that they'll be fine going 125 on the front straight?

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Sully - 05-05-2014

Idk why you still think the problem is the plastic zip tie. Like 5 people have said that the issue is the contact with the shock body. Even cutting that bracket and jb welding it to the shock body sounds like it'll be better than the current setup.

I'm not here to tell you what to do. Your car. Your deal.

I'd be happy to describe every wreck I've responded to at Summit and VIR that came from a lack of brakes. Those people have been fine because of full safety gear and running off into tire walls. We all just don't want to see you have something happen and lose brakes mid-turn on 33W where your runoff is the tree you hit 20 feet down the dropoff.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 05-06-2014

I'll give it some time when and thought when I can get access to the garage when Sam gets back in 2 weeks. No biggie Big Grin

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - nismosam - 05-15-2014

Let's check it out on Sunday, we'll come up with something.

And might have to take my door panel off to check the power window. Sounds good. It has been weird being at the apartment alone. Mr. Chow has been quiet actually

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 05-29-2014

Brake line brackets on the way. Power window motor on the way as my driver's side one decided to not work. Taking the door panel off was "exciting"...... lol. Also, turn on headlights his morning and drivers side is dead. Awesome. So looks like time to go to AutoZone or Advance. Going to have some very last minute preparations for Hyperfest. Going to check my oil level as I know I'm sure I burned a crap ton during the tuning process.

Also, got me one of these: http://tackform.com/shop/extended-headrest-mount/

How so?

Your definition and my definition of "last minute" preperations vary wildly.

I gotta throw in a new motor, tie rod, align, bleed brakes, and dyno the car before next wednesday.

Sarcasm. hahah

@DJ yeah... You have quite a bit of work. Hope you get everything done.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 05-30-2014

Window Motor and Brake line brackets came in just in time before the weekend. I guess no last minute preps next week. Yeah!

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - V1GiLaNtE - 05-30-2014

Don't ya love it when stuff comes in early!?

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 05-30-2014

Shit is in. Window works, and brake lines fixed. Aw yeah. Yes my collars are rusted. I plan to never change my height anyways....

Never going to corner weight it?

Kaan Wrote:Never going to corner weight it?

Not with these coilovers. If I'm going to get serious about tracking I'm stepping up to way better coilovers. I want custom Spring Rates of 8k front/6-7k rear. Not sure if I want to go with BC with Swift springs, go the H&R route, or KW....

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 05-31-2014

Go Pro Headrest mount came in today. Hell yeah now I can watch my slow driving on a track, auto-x, and mountains from the inside

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Jake - 06-01-2014

Nice! It's so helpful to see where your hands are positioned during whatever turn. I've learned a lot from my GoPro videos that are shot inside the car. The outside stuff is more for "hey look, I did a thing" and not much else.
