Project Hatch - Mike - 03-01-2006 Long overdue, this is where I'll document what I've done with my car, what I plan to do, and all that jazz. As RJ knows, I was looking for a stock Si hatch in good condition for years, but that didn't pan out. Those things are rare... After about 2 years of searching, I said f it and began looking at cars with swaps. I took a look at a few before I found a really clean one on Honda-Tech for a great price located in Tennessee. I negotiated a price, hopped in the Accord with a hungover Jessica and went for a drive. About an hour in, I had to pull over at a Shell station for her to puke. Awesome. We get to Johnson City, exchange funds, I take the guy to some chicken sandwich joint, and then we're on our way and I finally have my car... A '93 Civic CX: 1996 B18B (Integra LS) swap, tenzo r lowering springs, some shitty 2.5" exhaust, and a black interior swapped in. The second day I have the car, I'm showing boobies and scott it (I think), we're pulling out of my parking lot and this bitch comes flying up in the middle of the road and I can't do anything but hit her. A decent scratch to my front bumper, and to her fresh new beetle wheels "that her dad just bought for her." Fucking bitch. Enough stories, on to the car. I did my first event as I had bought it, and the thing was a pile. It ran great, but it needed some serious TLC. Mod 1: First mod would be replacing the stock shocks. I ordered up some KYB AGX and found that the spring on this car were purple and awful, but I didn't have the money to change them so they'd stay for a while. Mod 2: The stock seats sucked! I picked up a set of Del Sol seats, which still reside in the car. Mod 3: Fake Type R shift knob! Fuck yeah! This thing was hard to put on, I actually tore skin off my hands getting it tight. Mod 4: Got an exhaust ticket so I swapped the cannon for a Magnaflow oval, which sounds great. Mod 3: Graduated, had money, bought some Buddy Club Racing Spec dampers, which are still on the car. Installed them at an event ![]() Mod 4: Added Integra rear disc brakes and found that my drums were doing absolutely nothing. At this point I had done many events on just stock civic front brakes. Mod 5: Top Fuel whale penis intake. Didn't do squat for my buttdyno, but has a nice throaty sound. Mod 5: Now that I had brakes I was beginning to move on track. Added in an Autopower Race rollbar. Mod 6: Swapped out my front brakes (9.2") for a fastbrakes kit that used integra calipers, corrado rotors, and a little adapter. Hello 11" brakes! I have some serious stopping power now. I have yet to be able to fade them, and I love it. Mod 7: Swapped out the stock steering wheel for a Momo. Great mod, can really feel the car better. Mod 8: Got some ATS Comp Lite wheels to wrap in some used Hankook race tires I got off of RJ. R-comps are fun! Plans for this season: Seats, harnesses, new exhaust, get header installed (needs an o2 bung), maybe borrow/rent someone's car for comp license, new gauge cluster, new radiator and hoses, new springs, rear sway bar. - Sijray21 - 03-01-2006 Gooo EGG!!! I love these threads personally, glad to see you made one! oh yeah, here's a pic a WHILE ago at summit for people that haven't seen mike:
- Mike - 03-01-2006 and here is a more recent pic (end of 2005)
- ScottyB - 03-01-2006 sweet, i was always wondering if you were gonna make a thread like this, Mike. you talk about the motor going fairly often. are there secret nefarious plans to swap it again, or just boost it and cross your fingers? - .RJ - 03-01-2006 ScottyB Wrote:you talk about the motor going fairly often Rod bolts are a weak link. I expect mine to let go at any time, so I'm going to get to work rebuilding my spare with some ARP hardware. - Mike - 03-01-2006 welp, i thought the motor was really weak after i did a little run with rj in his stock rs and we were dead even. my compression numbers lead me to believe things aren't as bad as i suspected, but i'm down on power somewhere for sure. i plan to run this motor in to the ground before i swap cause it has treated me well, gets great mileage to the track, and the car is almost fast enough to keep me happy. i think with some quality bolt ons and tuning i'll be pleased. - Mike - 03-01-2006 Mike Wrote:Must do list: new windshield, new radiator and hoses, mount "new" tires. done list: spare pads, compression test (180-160-170-180), change oil (well, it is emptied anyway), new plugs, resecure battery, spare rotors. i own you rj! - Nick325is - 03-01-2006 Mike Wrote:welp, i thought the motor was really weak after i did a little run with rj in his stock rs and we were dead even. my compression numbers lead me to believe things aren't as bad as i suspected, but i'm down on power somewhere for sure. i plan to run this motor in to the ground before i swap cause it has treated me well, gets great mileage to the track, and the car is almost fast enough to keep me happy. i think with some quality bolt ons and tuning i'll be pleased.
