Rallycross = Loose surface but no major obstacles?

- mrbaggio - 04-13-2004

Forthe most part. yes. If you stay on course and drive safe your car should be fine. The surface they run on is a fine clay, hard packed in some spots and loose in others. This varies with the weather of course. It gets a bit rutted up as the day wears on but the course is wide enough that if you want to avoid the nasty areas you are able.

It's not like WRC with huge jumps, narrow passes, and tree lined routes.

- mrbaggio - 04-13-2004

mongooze here are some pics of the last event I went to, just to give you an idea of the what the area, course, and surface are like.

- PDenbigh - 04-19-2004

Can trucks be in it?

- mrbaggio - 04-19-2004

I think the rule is no high center of gravity vechicles. But call and ask. I want to get some other peeps out there with me

in the past trucks have been allowed.

in fact when it rained and was muddy, often times a truck would have ftd!

not sure about now though. I wouldnt be surprised if they arent allowed, especially after the roll-fest last time.

For Travis and anyone else that wants to come along....

I will head out around 7 or slighly after. First car is off at 10 so if you are driving yourself no sense getting there crazy early. I have one seat taken in my car already with 2 spots still open if anyone wants to go. Travis will you be driving there in your car?

The weather looks good too 60s with no rain. Should be a nice day.

Here are directions.

The event was a lot of fun. No roll-overs this time. One guy did smash up his rental Ford Focus. It was real dusty and the surface was very loose in some section. That allowed me to get sideways a bit and also nearly caused me to crap my pants. All said and done it was a good day.

Check out the pics here. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://sys12.cs.jmu.edu/antinajd/rallycross/">http://sys12.cs.jmu.edu/antinajd/rallycross/</a><!-- m -->
The new ones have rally2 at the end of the filename.

Results are up
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.dcrally.com/rallycross/oa2_2004_overall_results.html">http://www.dcrally.com/rallycross/oa2_2 ... sults.html</a><!-- m -->

I finished 2nd out of 6 in my class
and 10th of 34 overall. (lots of modded guys in front of me)

Im happy with the result. I could have done better if I downshifted more (thats how the No. 1 guy in my class beat me) but I would rather save my tanny.
