Hope it wasnt any of you (Derek's accident) - HAULN-SS - 01-09-2006

Some guy got nailed in an intersection on south main and that road that goes to the mill apartments...he wasnt moving ;\ Bike was 30 feet away, he was 30 feet from intersection..didnt see it happen, but saw right after everything stopped flying...

JohnC - Stickied so Derek can find the thread

damn. be careful guys.

it was probably somebody on their cell phone, while drinking coffee and shaving as they looked at their nav screen.

- Feersty - 01-10-2006

Maybe someone should ask Madison Motorcycle Club if it was any of them.

- scottcj - 01-10-2006

I saw that and it scared the hell out of me. I just left my friend at that intersection to go drop off my bike after we were riding. On the way back I saw rider down and freaked out so I called him to make sure he was ok. Just goes to show that anything can happen at any time.

- HAULN-SS - 01-10-2006

Im pretty sure t was one of the guys who keeps his bike at pheasant run

- REED - 01-10-2006

Not long after I moved up here I saw a guy on a bike get in an accident - not a fun sight, certainly scared any thoughts of getting a bike out of me for a while

Ride defensive.....

I dont think I would ride a bike around JMU all the time - too many people not paying attention (or worse) driving around.

i think it's MUCH worse in Northern VA. Not riding passively but defensively is the key. Sometimes you'll need to hit the throttle or ride on the shoulder to avoid an accident or incident (F the laws when your life is in danger -- not to be taken out of context). Awareness is your friend...i feel bad for this individual... Sad

What type of bike was it and when did this happen?

I agree that NOVA is much scarier than Harrisonburg as well. Theres just so much more traffic up there and everyone moves a lot faster.

You missed the point Wink

I think H-b-g as a whole is better for bikes, but anywhere near campus is 10x worse.

- HAULN-SS - 01-10-2006

couldn tell, it was beat all to hell and about 30 feet off the road facing the other way

- junooni - 01-10-2006

it was derek....the guy who used to ride the yellow and black tiumph..he just traded that one in for a 2004 yamaha r6....he got hit by a s-10 pickup truck

- G.Irish - 01-10-2006

Shit man, he is on this board, his sn is derilict. Hope he's okay. If anyone can find out anymore information about him maybe we could send him a get well package.

- Mike - 01-10-2006

shit... can someone call the hospital tomorrow?

- ScottyB - 01-10-2006

G.Irish Wrote:If anyone can find out anymore information about him maybe we could send him a get well package.

seriously, that sucks so bad. we should use our JMU hookups to send a college hottie to see him and drop off our package for us!

anybody see anything in local news or online about this accident and the details?

- junooni - 01-11-2006

ya they even had a pciture oif his bike on the daily news record..but its not online....me n a couple of my budies r gonna go see him tommorow...he got arilifted from the rockingham memorial to uva...last i heard..he was still able to talk and all when they were taking him away...

- .RJ - 01-11-2006

- JohnC - 01-11-2006

I can organize a care package here in Charlottesville (if he's at UVA medical center). What is his last name? And what would we like to include in the package?

- Sijray21 - 01-11-2006

I really hope he pulls through. Sad

lets keep this updated if any more news or care package collection is made.

- Mike - 01-11-2006

john, i'm in for whatever... i have 0 ideas... do you think motorcycle books would be inappropriate? they were perfect when my bud was in the hospital for mono, but not so sure in this case... flowers? shit.. i dunno.
